Terms of Service

The agreement between you and Writence for using Copyeditor — including an honest account of what the Authorship Certificate is, and isn’t.

Last updated: This is a template effective date. The binding terms live in the product app.

1. Agreement to terms

By using Copyeditor.app or the product at app.diglot.ai, you agree to these terms. Copyeditor is operated by Writence. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the service. For the binding, in-app version of these terms, see the product app.

2. Your account

You’re responsible for your account and for keeping your credentials secure. You must provide accurate information and be old enough to enter a binding agreement in your jurisdiction.

3. Acceptable use

Use Copyeditor for lawful writing and editing. Don’t use it to break the law, infringe others’ rights, attempt to disrupt the service, or misrepresent authorship of work that isn’t yours. We may suspend accounts that abuse the service.

4. Academic integrity

Copyeditor is built to support disciplined, honest academic writing — structured drafting, proper citation, and a documented process. It is your responsibility to follow your institution’s rules on AI assistance, collaboration, and originality. The tool’s optional AI features do not absolve you of those obligations, and using them in ways your institution prohibits is your responsibility, not ours.

5. The Authorship Certificate — what it is

The Authorship Certificate is a signed, timestamped, documentary record of how a document was written over time within Copyeditor. It is supporting evidence of your writing process. It records activity; it does not adjudicate it.

6. The Authorship Certificate — what it is not

The certificate does not prove legal innocence, does not certify that a document is free of plagiarism, and is not a guarantee, warranty, or verdict of any kind. It is not a substitute for an educator’s, employer’s, or institution’s own judgement, and should not be presented as conclusive proof of anything beyond the writing activity it records. We describe it this way deliberately.

7. Your content and ownership

You retain ownership of the documents and content you create in Copyeditor. You grant us the limited license needed to operate the service for you — storing, processing, and displaying your content to provide the features you use. We do not use your documents to train AI models.

8. Third-party integrations

When you connect Zotero, Mendeley, or other services, your use of those services is governed by their own terms. We’re not responsible for third-party services, only for handling the connection as described in our privacy policy.

9. Subscriptions and billing

Paid plans (Spark and Pro) are billed on the cycle you choose, monthly or yearly. Beta members may receive founding-member pricing. You can cancel at any time; cancellation stops future renewals and takes effect at the end of the current period unless stated otherwise.

10. Beta status

Copyeditor is in beta. Features may change, and occasional issues are part of an evolving product. We’ll communicate material changes, but the beta is provided on an evolving basis.

11. Disclaimers

The service is provided “as is.” To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties not expressly stated here. AI-assisted output may contain errors; you’re responsible for reviewing and verifying anything you rely on, including citations.

12. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, Writence’s liability arising from your use of Copyeditor is limited as described in the binding in-app terms. We’re not liable for academic, professional, or institutional consequences of how you choose to use the tool.

13. Termination

You can stop using Copyeditor at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for breach of these terms or to protect the service. On termination, you can request export or deletion of your data as described in the privacy policy.

14. Changes and contact

We may update these terms as the product evolves; material changes will be communicated in the app. Questions? Reach us at hello@copyeditor.app or via the contact page.
